Overview:
I turn around and a cold broken beer bottle is being stuck to my neck; I can smell the distinct smell of Corona piercing through my nostrils as a robber says “give me 200 hundred.” Yep I was being robbed on my first day in Brazil. Rio is a cool city with lots to do but it is dangerous with many tourists like myself being robbed on the beach in plain daylight so walk in groups if at all possible and only carry small amounts of money and no credit cards if you’re planning on doing a lot of walking. If someone approaches you and asks if you want to buy drugs just say no thanks and walk away as these people are typically con men who are attempting to set you up for a robbery which in some cases has ended in death. Carnival is cool but hotel and Airbnb rates are ridiculous during that time. Carnival is definitely recommended as a bucket list activity but not worth repeat visits because things get old.
The women are gorgeous, and dating is fun, and with the incredible nightlife and tourist attractions you’ll have a lot of things to do at night and all day long. Rio de Janeiro is definitely a great place for a solo traveler.
The Rankings (As explained on the home page):
GH: 10
PP:8
QOC: 7
FQ: 10
The Women:
“Damn girl, are those midgets in your jeans?” They’re hot…. really hot. Women in Rio are a little darker than the ones in Sao Paulo but Rio is so diverse you can find whatever you want here. Women here are known for their booties and if you like booties then Rio will not disappoint. Since the economy is better in brazil compared to most other South American countries girls are less likely to ask you for money after you pipe! Unlike most other South American countries many girls here are not fond of dating foreigners, but there are still many who are down for the get down so don’t get discouraged after getting turned down. You will need to have game here, this isn’t like Colombia or DR where you can just hold your phone out and get a girl’s number; look up a few words and phrases in Portuguese before you go.
Must Do:
The women! Sorry just one last thing about the women… Sex with a Brazilian girl that actually likes you is probably the best that you’ve had. Hit the Christ statue just to say you did. Hit a churascaria if you eat meat; i’ll tell you about my favorite in the food section. Rent some beach chairs and drink on the beach. If it’s carnival hit up a street party or as they are called in Rio “Blocos” they have street vendors selling beer, cocktails and food. There is also plenty of dancing, check out my moves in this video… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytq-NdCQFoc
Night Life:
Screw Copacabana unless you wanna find a rich British grandma sugar mama, it’s so touristy there. If you “tryna” get lit then you will want to hit Lapa it’s a strip of bars and clubs where the young and sexy party.
Food:
Brazilian food is really good and street vendors are cheap and generally safe. For a more upscale dining experience hit up Churrascaria Palace for all you can eat meat. Pro tip… don’t fill up on the buffet and salad bar because the waiters will continuously bring you meat until you’ve had your fill. Screw Fogo De Chao it’s a churrasco place just like Churrascaria Palace except more expensive since it’s an international chain. You didn’t come to Rio to spend all your money on food now did you, you filthy animal. Honorable mention… hit Galeto Sat’s, it’s small and might have a short wait for seating but it’s well worth it.
Where to Stay:
Most tourists stay in Copacabana but because of that things are more expensive here. You will be close to the beach but I would personally suggest that you stay in Lapa since you will be close to the best nightlife and can easily get home if you get too sauced and it’s also cheaper!
Getting Around:
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT ever pay for a taxi using a credit card as my boy tried that and was charged $500 US dollars for a ride which was obviously a scam. Always take metered Taxi’s so you can be sure you are not being scammed. You can take the metro if you want to save bread on taxi’s but taxi’s are cheap here $5 should do the trick.
