Cartagena Colombia

Overview:
“Hey man does it make me weird if I go down on a hooker?” That was the question asked to me by one of my friends after he met a prostitute on the street our first night in Cartagena. This would’ve been funny if I didn’t find out later that I was sharing the same water bottle as him. This is a beautiful colonial style city with many historic landmarks. Couples and single men/women alike can have fun in this city. The City is generally pretty safe but use precaution especially at night.

The Women:
There are many women here that look to have relationships with foreign men that don’t involve money but there are many that do. Women here are medium to dark skinned and typically not as curvy as they are in Cali but much curvier than what you would typically find in Medeillin. The girl’s that stand by the clocktower or “Puerta Del Reloj” as it is known are pros. You can hit Bocagrande mall or any of the other malls in the city to try to day game but this isn’t the best city for that. I suggest meeting girls online before you arrive; I did this and there was generally no expectation of payment outside of paying for their taxi’s. BE CREATIVE… I once exchanged English lessons for some alone time with a lady here.

Must Do:
This is probably the most historic part of Colombia so definitely take some pictures in the Old City or “Ciudad Vieja” as it’s called. Hit the beach and grab some fresh mangos from one of the vendors.

Nightlife:
We walk into the club as an imposing figure comes over to me and says “hey you want coke?” This wouldn’t be as shocking if it wasn’t the head of the club’s security asking me this. Many people here will try to sell you drugs and there are always risks involved so try at your own risk. The club/ bar scene is located in the Old City which makes bar hopping easy once you get there. Cartagena is where the Colombian citizens that can afford to go on vacation go for some relaxation so your odds of meeting a girl here with her own money are much greater in this city than any other city in Colombia and many of these girls can be found on the beach or in clubs/ bars. The party scene in Colombia really isn’t good because people are usually seated at tables in mixed groups but due to it’s large tourism influence many of Cartagena’s bars have adapted a more American style club set up with people standing around the dance floor.

Food:
Some of the best food in the world is served here. Hit the Old City and pick a Colombian restaurant. Try the parmesan cheese chicken breast. Restaurants are more expensive here than other cities in Colombia due to all of the tourism.

Where to Stay:
Everything is in the Old City so I would suggest that you stay there however because of this it can get a little costly. If you’re on a budget I recommend that you stay in Manga as it is a safe neighborhood that is cheap and not too far from the Old City.

Getting Around:
Taxi or Uber! Make sure you get in a metered taxi or agree on a price before you get in which should not be more than $10 unless you are going to or from the airport.
